Let's All Singers Together!
Coventry's new Lord Mayor Cllr Dave Batten officially opened the Singers Bar & Bistro at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
Over 100 special guests watched Cllr Batten and Joe Elliott from Coventry City Football Club cut a red ribbon draped over a Singer Moto-Wheel motorbike at the opening night of the refurbished bistro.
Photos from Singer's motoring history and Singers FC - formerly Coventry City - have been hung in the entrance to the bistro and the 71 Rooms & Silk Suites hotel near a Singer 1929 Junior car.
"The rooms in the hotel are absolutely fantastic and I am sure Singers Bar & Bistro will become the place to come when you are at the Ricoh Arena," Cllr Batten said.
"When we were building motor cars in Coventry, Singer was one of the major producers and the lads who worked on the tracks started a football team Singers FC which became Coventry City.
"Good luck to Singers Bar & Bistro - I am sure it is going to be a success."
Joe Elliott, a director at the Sky Blues, said the new-look bistro had been a great opportunity for the football club to work with the Ricoh and the Coventry Transport Museum to ensure the city's motoring heritage lived on.
"This is another fantastic place to improve on the most wonderful project to hit this city of Coventry," he said.
"I think it is a tremendous idea to call it Singers because the company played a major part in the social history of the industrial side of this city.
"I am sure the future is incredibly bright for this tremendous project which will go forward in leaps and bounds."
Coventry-based band The Big Easy entertained guests in the refurbished Singers Bar & Bistro which has been divided into a restaurant, bar area and coffee lounge with internet access and plasma television screens.
Ricoh Arena chief executive Daniel Gidney added: "We have come a long way since we opened and this is just one part of our on-going journey to improve our customers' experience.
"We were delighted the Lord Mayor was able to join us at the re-launch along with our sponsors and tenants, members of the Singers Owners' Club and special guests."
